School Profile:

Kingsmead Primary School is a community school for children aged 4-11. We aim for all the children learning with us to enjoy their education. We work hard to make their time in school interesting, exciting, challenging and sometimes even awe-inspiring! Our school motto is 'caring for ourselves, other people and our environment.' This drives the work of our whole school community: children who learn here; teaching and support staff and volunteers including the school's governing body, the Kingsmead Friends Association and students in school.

Use of My Learning:

We have been using My Learning since 2012 and find the system very useful for staff, students and parents. The platform is really child friendly and has plenty of simple features that can be used to gradually build up students’ understanding and use of ICT (something many of the staff appreciate as well!). Students particularly like the messaging system, which is well used from home but can easily be monitored by staff to ensure nothing inappropriate is sent. This is a great way for students to learn about e-safety and the dos and don’ts of online messaging. The ability to personalise the VLE is also very popular with students.

For staff, using My Learning has been a real time saver. This has been particularly evident when getting reports out to parents. Previously it had been a huge undertaking for the office staff to collate, print (usually ten sides of A4) and send out reports for every student. Now, with the click of a button, reports are easily made available online for parents to read. The integration of SIMS with My Learning has allowed to complete this previously lengthy and complicated task in just a few minutes, saving precious time, effort and resources.

As an Eco-school we aim to reduce our impact on the environment wherever possible and My Learning has proved to be a great way to achieve this.

Another favourite feature for the staff is the ability to quickly and easily set homework tasks. Staff need only attach a simple Word document to a homework task and students are able to log in and complete the task on the system or in their books. Again, this reduces the printing and photocopying of resources as well as saving valuable time for teachers.

Our school website is built using the My Learning Website Builder and is a great way to get information to parents etc. We use the website to publish newsletters, blogs and the school calendar as well as each class having their own section of the website where parents can find updates, news and documents specifically relating to their child’s class.

The training provided by My Learning has been really good and the support from the company is really useful. We know that we can contact them with issues and they are always sorted in a helpful and efficient manner. We also really like the fact that we can put in feature requests and we know that these will be considered and completed where possible.
